Welcome Your New Business Manager

facebookOf course, I’m not referring to a new executive in your company. I mean the new Facebook Business Manager tool that went into effect on Feb 16th for anyone who manages pages or advert accounts. You should have received an email telling you to migrate before that date. If you didn’t handle the migration, you’ve likely had a day or two of extreme frustration.

There are Definite Advantages

The new Business Manager tool isn’t without it’s fair share of bugs and faults, but has any Facebook feature ever been without them? On the other side of the coin, there are some real improvements for anyone who manages more than one page or advert account.

Using Business Manager keeps your personal and business information and posts completely separate, while allowing you to log in from a single location. This is very nice. In addition, it gives you a single interface from which you can manage multiple Pages and advert accounts, add team members and assign them permissions related to their responsibilities only.

For agencies, it also makes it much simpler to get access to a new clients’ Page by simply requesting permission through the tool. The client grants permission when they receive the request, and voila! – you’re in and doing your thing. Obviously, however, there are always downsides to any big changes such as this (particularly in the case of Facebook).

The Not-So-Great Parts

First of all, if everything goes really smoothly you’ll still spend a decent amount of time getting your account set up, especially if you didn’t successfully migrate everything over and have to start fresh.

Secondly – and this is an oversight that will surely be fixed soon (we hope) – it is impossible to remove any ad accounts you have in Business Manager. What kind of sense does that make?

Thirdly, it is still impossible to schedule posts that you want to share from other pages. Again, we can only hope that this is an oversight which will be fixed, but there’s less hope for this one since that capability was impossible even before Business Manager came about.

Finally, it seems far too full of bugs to have been fully implemented yet. Users have reported loss of admin rights, the inability to comment on Page reviews from the tool, and even a total loss of page or ad accounts. It seems that Facebook is in a hurry to fully roll out their Facebook for Business competitor to LinkedIn, and Page managers are the ones suffering from the rush.

What to Do?

Before the 16th you had the option of whether or not you wanted to use the Business Manager page for your Facebook business accounts. Now, it’s the only choice. For a business with only one page, it’s certainly not an ideal setup and can even be frustrating.

However, there is another option for business owners, one you may have considered before all of these changes.
